*Modesty Standards*
It’s our desire to host activities that are quite different from what is found elsewhere: one where Christian modesty and etiquette standards are the norm! With that in mind, we ask that ladies, whether they are in outfits that are historical or modern, take care that their outfits are modest.
Before attending any of our functions, we encourage ladies to check their necklines while bending over, ensure their midriffs are covered when arms are raised, and make certain that their skirts remain modest while twirling. Strapless, spaghetti straps, and halter outfits are not appropriate.
We want to honor one another above ourselves. If it might offend your brother, don’t wear it. We truly appreciate the wonderful Christian fellowship we have enjoyed thus far! Thank you so much for honoring our standards!
*Costuming for Balls*
The dances at our balls date from ~1770-1900, so costuming from any of those years is welcome. These years include fashions from the Colonial, Regency, Romantic, War Between the States, Victorian, and Edwardian eras.
*Modern Ball Attire*
Costumed is by far the most fun way to attend a ball and is highly encouraged, but it is not required. If you are not able to costume, we ask that men wear slacks and button shirts, preferably with a tie. Ladies, likewise, should dress modestly in skirts or dresses keeping with traditional church attire. We prefer not to have non-historical formal wear or casual clothing at our balls.
*Appropriate Dress for Practices*
In the same vein, we want to show Christian love to one another. If in doubt, please err on the side of modesty. All attendees of practices (whether dancing or not) are asked to follow the modesty standards listed above. That said, practices are a more relaxed atmosphere, so denim, t-shirts, and long shorts are fine. Any shirt wording should be respectful.
