Frequently Asked Questions

Who is invited to the ball?

Our balls are for like-minded Christian families who share our desire for godly activities. We ask that you confer with us before inviting other guests.

May younger children dance at the ball?

Yes, but children under the age of twelve may only dance with a parent, except for a few open dances (such as the Patty Cake Polka). We are so blessed to have so many families attend our events and we consider the balls and related practices a wonderful family activity.

Are costumes required for the ball?

While costumes are not required, we love period attire! This is a historical ball and historical clothing is most appropriate. However if you are unable to obtain a historical costume, appropriate attire for both dancers and guests is traditional church attire. Please see our Attire & Modesty section for more details.

Why do you have dance practices?

In the weeks preceding our balls we schedule dance practices to give all interested the opportunity to be familiar with the steps and figures of the dances before actually attempting them on the ball room floor. Besides, it’s another excuse to get together and fellowship!

Do I have to attend a dance practice to come to the ball?

Not at all. The dances are not hard to learn, and we welcome all with interest, whether they can make it to the practices or not.

We have a Master of Ceremonies who will call (talk us through the dances). If you follow the directions and watch the other couples, you should not only do well, but you should have a wonderful time!
